Integrated Seed Sector Development
ISSD is an inclusive approach that strengthens different seed systems in a country with the aim of supporting the development of a vibrant, pluralistic and market-oriented seed sector. It recognizes the coexistence of informal and formal seed systems.
The ISSD approach also acknowledges the complementary of roles of both private and public actors in the seed sector. It promotes entrepreneurship as well as a market-orientation in smallholder farmers. It enhances an enabling environment in order to boost innovation in multiple seed systems.
As a result, an increased access to quality seed is secured. By fostering the update of quality seed, the ISSD approach contributes to food security and economic development.
