Unlike the previous platform meetings, the seventh National Seed Sector Platform Meeting took place through zoom application service due to COVID 19 pandemic. The meeting was hold on 3 June 2020 with thirty eight participants from public, private, NGOs and INGOs. At the meeting, DG of Department of Agriculture delivered opening speech and DG of Department of Planning shared response of Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation to COVID 19.
ISSD Myanmar Programme leader Dr. Abishkar Subedi presented rapid assessment of impact of COVID 19 on Myanmar Seed Sector. Mr. Brett Ballard from Livelihood and Food Security Fund (LIFT) and Mr. Ashok Murarka presented emergency response: Cash for work programme and TBL Co. Ltd’s response to COVID 19 respectively. The meeting bring about four topics for break out session which are mobility and logistics for all seed related activities, emergency response for hardest hit households, demand side challenges: creating incentives for farmers to buy seeds and supply side challenges: supporting seed companies and producers. The rapporteurs of four groups presented the biggest issues, solutions and key stakeholders involved in each action in the plenary session.
