ISSD Myanmar organized sixth National Seed Sector Platform Meeting with the theme on “Developing a National Seed Investment Plan for Myanmar” at Park Royal Hotel, Naypyitaw, Myanmar. One hundred participants from seed sector; public, private and development partners attended the meeting.
The opening speech was delivered by the Director General, Department of Agriculture. In line with the theme of meeting, DG highlighted the need for competitiveness and land access for companies, including contract farming with smallholder farmers and land lease from the government. The morning session was dedicated to three presentations on: 1) introduction Myanmar seed investment plan by Daw San Kyi, Head of Seed Law Unit, 2) risk based inspection of seeds by Cho Cho Myint, WUR Coordinator and 3) updates on Myanmar Seed Association (MSA) by Daw Khin Myo Khaing, President of MSA. The two rounds of break out session discussed four topics: seed valley, private sector investments, one stop shop and local seed production.
The topics were actively discussed in detail by participants in each group. The first round of breakout session took place before lunch. The second round of break out session and the plenary presentation with feedbacks were continued after lunch.
